No clever intro today folks - Brent and I are celebrating the holidays early by having an eggnog chugging contest. every time I stop to write, he sneaks ahead even more. No time to waste. Onward!
Also, Snoop is judging the contest. |
John: This reminds me of a special character showdown that was published in White Dwarf so many years ago. I loved it then when I was a wee lad and I love it now with newer and better contenders and better methodology. Dice for the dice throne of Khorne!
John: Also: FIGHT!!!!!!!!
Brent: I agree. This was a cool idea - I’m surprised nobody has thought of it before. My only complaint is there were no pictures to go with it. Even a pic of each model stolen... er, borrowed from the internet would have been great.
John: FIGHT!!!!!!!!!
2) Dark Future Games - Deathstars: Can your shields repel firepower of this magnitude?
John: Deathstars - so you good you build ‘em twice or do you leave that shit at home next to all the anime you bought when you were in high school? A good question and one that I still wrestle with even though I’ve had very, very poor experiences with running them. I guess it comes down to the siren call of the killing potential the unit has and the sheer spectacle of fielding it. You’re prone to getting wrecked by a canny player, but there’s just something about fielding a giant zombie with wrecking balls for arms... or it’s rough equivalent.
Brent: This one deserved a nod for the banner, if for no other reason! Very cool - I think Dark Future went with the winner, though the other entries were cool, too. Why are you looking at me like that Lauby?
John: The banner? Really, Brent? There’s an article here.
Brent: What about the article?
John: You know the eternal questions: to deathstar or not to deathstar?
Brent: Oh. It was cool.
3) Chaos Kingdoms - Constructing a Necron Tomb Stalker Part 1, Construction
John: I just love this model. And as we all know, people who paint models I love are a shoe-in for the Top X. Especially when the presentation is awesome.
Brent: This is a pretty perfect blog post. It’s a cool idea using a neat model, it’s well-executed, and the pictures follow text. Now I just have to get a heat gun... it has different settings, right Lauby?
John: Indeed they do, Brent. Usually ‘high, ‘low’ and ‘off’... ‘off’ counts as a setting, right?
Brent: No, I was thinking more like ‘roast’ or ‘flambe’ or something...
John: Some of those bad boys go up to 1100 degrees and I have personally cooked a chestnut with one. Is that not enough for you?
4) Funderhammer - Game aids FTW
Brent: This is a pretty nifty post. I wasn’t a believer in this thing until I got one in my swag bag at Da Boyz this year. It’s actually useful.
John: Despite being someone who loves game aids, it always amazes me that I just don’t pony up the 10 bucks for something as indispensable as this. With all the times my trusty, rusty tape measure has knocked my own guys over you’d think I’d. Plus, GF9 makes extremely high quality stuff.
Brent: It doesn’t beat this thing though - here’s the King of Templates! My boy Little Barrera busted out with it during a game of War Machine... it literally does anything, sort of like a Swiss Army Knife for geeks.
John: Disqualified! That’s three templates.
5) Touched by Greatness - Stormy's A.S.S.: Casting Jaws into Combat
John: You know, I try to be a good person and all... but I’m consistently drawn to stuff like this. It probably has a lot to do with my Warmachine MkI Days. Brent, you’re vaguely a Space Wolf player - what’s your take on your A.S.S and how can I get a handle on it?
Brent: I always knew you wanted to touch my A.S.S. - but I’m okay with it. Unless that’s not what you meant, then dude, that’s just gross.
John:
Brent: Oh, the article? I’m not sure about the Thunder Hammer trick but I’m too lazy to look it up. Overall, I really dig the idea, so keep at it Stormy!
John: Even if stuff like this turns out to be illegal or is FAQed out of existence, it will come up and its good to know what’s coming. And knowing is half the battle (the other half is violence)....
