The Weekly Top X - Deluxe mixed nuts (less than 50% non YTTH content)

Brent's promised me an interruption free intro this week (where is he when you need him), so here it goes:

I don't want to fully full on use the word slapdash to describe this week, but things were a bit harried due to the biggest drinking holiday of the year.  (No, I'm not talking about days that end in 'y', Dethtron)  8 hour drives with a hangover aside, the first Top X of the new year is ready to go.  So sit back and relax, clear your mind of the shame of the bizarre New Year's resolutions you made while drunk and have an easy going, post-holiday season read.

1) Warhammer 39,999 - Safety First: Hackerproof Your Blog
Brent: This is an interesting lead-off, Lauby. I really dig these type of unrelated-yet-related posts - where do you manage to find them?
John: On the HoP blog roles, of course.  Zing!
Brent: ...
John:  Right...  I like stuff like this because I tend to think of blogging about Wargaming as the third leg of the hobby (or at least my version of it).  Like the whole painting and gaming things, there's a lot to take in with blogging and it can be a bit of a challenge to get going on the whole thing if you're not all that tech savey.  HTML looks scarier than it really is and even just getting a layout you like can take weeks of tinkering.  Some people just don't even have a clue that this is an issue.  As the supreme Gawker fuck-up proved, web security is extremely important.  In a lot of ways, going back to my third leg (Hiyo!) theory, this post is along the same lines as x-acto knife safety.
Brent: It’s definitely worth the read. I’m redoing my router password tonight... as in adding one. (I’m so ashamed!)

2) TrueMiniWargamer.com - Mark of the Wolfen
Brent: Man, this dude is a true talent! I’m loving the clean lines on his Space Wolves models!
John: I'm seeing parts from all over the Citadel range beyond even what he told us he was using.  That's some pretty amazing kit combination.  But the green stuff - that's where the magic is.  The rune strings on the shoulder pads are just plain jaw dropping.
Brent: This article is yet another in a long line that makes me wish I had any sculpting talent.
John:  Me too.  Do you think we could get him to give us some of his blood?  I hear that drinking the blood of another gives you some of their power.  I wonder how much we'd need...
Brent: No, serious. I’d take any! A thimble full even! This Wolfen conversion is subtle and lovely, and that’s the best compliment I can pay.

3) Yes The Truth Hurts - Fighting With Kid Gloves
Brent: I don’t know about you, Lauby, but I like seeing YTTH hurts posts that aren’t Stelek on a regular basis.
John:  Me too - not that this is an anti-Stelek thing or something.  What I mean is that Purgatus is another facet of the whole YTTH mission.  He's got the same kind of competitive mantra as the Starblazer, but he comes at it in a much different way and it really compliments a lot of what Stelek has been doing.
Brent: That’s what I mean. Purgatus brings a quality product to the blog; he’s by far the best non-Stelek author owing to his consistency. This isn’t my favorite Purgatus article, but that’s not a slight on it - it’s standard fare for the dude... and that’s good!
John: Another reason I picked this one is because it meshes really well with what GMort has been doing with his HoP articles.  Finding a good balance between you and another person is always tricky and interacting with relative strangers compounds the matter.  Its a question everyone should ask themselves at some point, its just a shame that it only seems to be asked by the competitive crowd.

4) Yes The Truth Hurts - Dark Eldar Musings
5) Yes The Truth Hurts - Dark Eldar: Design Path for Light Eldar?
John: We're now firmly into the YTTH portion of the Top X.  Stelek has had a chunk of a rough time lately what with the hand problems and all and the rocky blog redesign (What he's going through is straight out of my nightmares).  If anyone needs a stack of paincakes covered in mapplethorpe syrup, its Andy. The new layout is looking nice and ts good to see him posting  the kinds of posts that I first found on YTTH and kept me coming back for more.
Brent: It’s also great to see Stelek posting semi-regularly again. He’s not up to his old output, but it’s hard to type with a hand injury... that reminds me of a story...
John: Brent, you malodorous pervert, if you even think about telling me that awful double knuckle shuffle and related finger cast story again I will personally drive to Texas, kill you, burn down your house and then salt the charred land.
Brent: I’m hurt, Lauby - simply hurt. Okay, I won’t tell it... but suffice it to say, I became proficient with my other hand, too.
John: <shudder> It may be time to implement some kind of performance review policy for the HoP authors...
Brent: Oh, we’re back to discussing the articles again? These articles are vintage Stelek, both thought-gems from the same vein. He’s controversial and always will be, but I have to admit the Blogosphere wouldn’t be the same without him.
John:  Agreed.  Love him or hate him, he's had an effect on the world at large and has produced some thought provoking stuff.
Brent: Yup. Stelek is unique he is.
