Hey folks, SinSynn here.
So when it comes to like, 'popular culture,' I'm probably not the most tolerant of Xenos.
I pretty much universally hate everything, for no good reason.
Whatever it is that the Normals are discussing around their water coolers, I'm usually dead set against it.
*Dancing With the Stars is amazing, but not as good as America's Got Talent!*
Like many discerning aliens, I'm a being of more refined tastes.
Sports?
*yawn*
Big Hollywood-style movies?
Meh, I'll bootleg it. I mean, er...buy the DVD, when it releases in a proper, legal manner.
:)
And as for TV, well...please, don't get me started. Just...don't.
*Season SEVEN? What the? Are you surreal?*
However, I do...watch stuffs. I admit it.
YOU WILL TELL NO ONE OF THIS !!!!
....you know the punishment....
Since I'm admitting stuff, and you're under threat of disintegration, I'll let you in on a lil' secret.
Sometimes, the reason I'm not watching NEW stuffs is because I'm catching up on stuffs I refused to watch 3 years ago, for whatever reason...not that I actually ever have, uh...reasons.
Shush, you...psychosis is a handicap, y'know.
:P
Or maybe it's because I tend to watch things I really love countless times. Until I like, memorize every single line.....and maybe the DVD's get all worn out...and sticky.

*Best reason to own a Blu-Ray, ever. SAY IT!...or so help me...*
Recently, I've found myself completely enthralled by Battlestar Galactica, which was one of those things I refused to watch during it's original run.
It's...pretty awesome, I must admit.
So, I guess I was wrong about it, initially.
Shut up.
DON'T YOU JUDGE ME!
I'm admitting stuffs here.....Like rooting for the Cylons.
;)

*Mmmm....Cylons*
This is a pattern I've repeated over and over again, much to my chagrin.
Everything but 'the stuff I like' is stupid, for some unfathomable reason.
It usually takes people physically subjecting me to stuffs to get me to watch anything, and I'm generally pretty miserable about it, initially.
My knucklehead stepson is famous for doing this. He's inured to my complaints, I believe.....
'This is lame. Why are we watching this?'
"It's the friggin' title title screen, you moron. Shut up and just watch it. I'm telling you it's great, and yer gonna love it. So shut up and just-'
'Hey, I know! We should put on-'
"NO WE WILL NOT WATCH TRANSFORMERS 2 AGAIN!"
'Well, we don''t hafta watch the whole thing...we could just watch...y'know, certain scenes, maybe.'
"SHUT UP AND WATCH THIS!"
'Well...this is lame.Transformers 2 had a way better title screen.'
Despite my resistance, there are many times I've gotten caught out there at the end.
"See? What did I tell you? That was awesome and you loved it, right?"
'...Yeah, it was alright...I guess...if you like that kinda thing.'
"What? I saw you there at that one part...it was sad...you had a lil' tear. Right there, in the corner of yer eye. I saw it."
'Shut up. I did not. Yer a big dumb liar.'
"Pfft! Whatever...I guess you don't wanna see the next one, then."
'....There's a next one?'
"AHA! I knew it!"
'Shut up.'
"You gonna cry at the sad parts again, lil' baby?"
'You wanna lose yer XBox again, lil' wiseguy?'
"...Wow...I hate you, sometimes...."
'Power has it's privileges. Now put on the next one.'
"...I told you so, though. Didn't I tell you so?"
'Shut up. Press play.'
*sigh*
I haz shame, but waddayagonnado?
Make threats, I guess...heh.
Somewhere around the beginning of the 3rd season of Battlestar Galactica, I realized the show made me...really happy.
And I thought to meself, 'Meself, what if you had missed this entirely? What if you had continued to be an unreasonable, stubborn jerk, with your unreasonable, stubborn jerk attitude, and you went and friggin' missed it? You wouldn't be all happy right now, would you? You woulda missed it. Nice work, Mr. Reasonable, you keep on with yer bad self. Yer a rebel, you are.'
Stupid...Logic...It's stupid.
Regardless, I decided to be a lil' more...open to new things.
You never know, I could miss something.
That would kinda...suck, huh?
So, since logic is obviously stupid, and I am genius (nyah), then it makes perfect sense that I would do the same thing with my Hobby, wouldn't it?

*Ha! You thought I was just gonna ramble, huh? Well...I might still do that*
*That's him, using his evil powers to get me to play a demo game of Flames of War*
Yeah, since I'm admitting stuffs, I'll admit I was a GW Fanboi.
And no, I'm not ashamed of it, and I'm not here to riff about them, or talk up any other system.
GW is da awesome, so there ya go.
Even if I'm 'on break' from 40k, GW keeps me amused.
Boy, they sure do give us something to talk about, huh?
How could I front on GW? I can't, and I'm not gonna.
Even when I'm in full blown, Space Marine hate-mode...I still got love for GW.
Look what they've given me, given us.
So much.
So I don't really resent myself for pulling my usual routine when I got all wrapped up in 40k.
'Everything else is stupid.'
40k is just that cool. It is.
Logically, then (cuz I'm so logical), it would take someone physically subjecting me to...something else, to get me to change, wouldn't it?
Yeah, it would.
Naturally, that's what happened.
It was the Ultimate Rival that done did it, that knucklehead.

"So, waddaya think? Cool, right?"
'...Yeah, it's alright...I guess...if you like tanks.'
"Who doesn't like tanks? That's a terrible argument. I saw you. You made little 'vroom' noises. I saw that."
'I never did. You're imagining things.'
"You did it and you know you did it. You went 'vroom.' You yelled 'Gott Im Himmel' when yer Tiger got bailed too, y'know."
'...I may have been a lil'...caught up in the moment, is all.'
"Yeah, whatever. So I guess you don't wanna play again later this week, huh? Fine, we might as well pack up the table and the terrain, then. My wife will wanna use the garage over the weekend."
'...Well, now...let's not be hasty.'
"AHA! Gotcha! You might as well admit it, pal...I was right!"
'Why you son of a...this whole thing was a setup! You diabolical fiend!'
"...And?"
'...And...how much do the models cost?'
"Does it really matter?"
'No...no, I suppose it doesn't...curse you. A pox upon you, and yer...armored rifle company, or whatever the stupid military terminology is.... which I suppose I'll hafta learn now, dammit.'
"Yeah, you will."
'I hate you. My wallet hates you. The Crazy Lady I live With hates you...you know that, right?'
"Yeah...so, Thursday then?"
'Well, duh.'

Here it is a few months later, and there's an Infinity starter set in front of me.
It didn't take a scam or con job, wrangling or threats of violence to convince me to give it a shot.
I'd already gotten into the hobby thanks to GW (two armies!), had myself a little Flames of War thing goin' on (the Crazy Lady wasn't thrilled, even if I was), so I figured..what the hell?
The Crazy Lady can only kill me once, right? Please reassure me on this...
A starter set isn't a huge investment, and it didn't take me long to convince the Ultimate Rival to give it a shot, either.
He's, uh...a tad more reasonable than I am, perhaps.
-_-
Besides, Infinity is sorta new, it looks really cool, has an awesome Xenos faction...and I don't wanna miss it cuz I'm an unreasonable, stubborn jerk.

*She's gonna cut me...I just know it*
I suppose I'm directing this somewhat lengthy diatribe at the all the GW fanbois out there.
I'm in no way trying to endorse any one system over another, or saying any one should jump ship, that's for sure.
There's no need for that, actually. I have a bunch of 40k stuff, and it ain't goin' nowhere, trust me.
Yeah, I may be 'on break' from 40k, but I'll be back, in the same way I come back to those movies I can recite all the lines to.
Sometimes the familiar is so comfortable, you know what I mean?
However, I'm a big enough Xeno to admit that...maybe I was wrong.
Yeah, ultimately I'm really glad that I got...coerced into trying something new.
It's been a really positive Hobby type of experience for me, and I really wanna recommend it to anyone who maybe is being...stubborn, like I was.
Everything else is not necessarily 'stupid.'
Just...most of it.
Take a chance. Go, check out some models somewhere. Click on a 'getting started' linky.
You can watch videos that will show you the basics, see if anything catches yer fancy.
Nowadays, you can probably actually find someone that plays something other than 40k (see? It's cool. Not that big of a deal).
Or maybe you can...corrupt a friend. It's been known to happen.
-_-
Starter sets for a lot of games are reasonably priced, and are actually well designed, not the half-assed jobs a lot of them used to be.
There's not really a lot of risk any more. Many of the gamers I speak to play two or more systems.
Really...it's not that big of a deal.
Another option is playing a game like Necromunda or even Killzone, if you'd like to take baby steps.
Now how's that for easy, huh?
Sheesh- both rulesets are free, and you've probably got the models.
So don't be like me. Don't deliberately be a stubborn, unreasonable jerk.
It's just...dumb.
You don't wanna miss something, trust me.
Five bucks says you get caught out there in the end.
Until next time, folks- Have a very Xenos Day!
P.S.- Oh, by the way- I TOTALLY plan on subjecting you guys to Infinity, so nyah.
