The Weekly Top X: Brent’s in Charge; Hide the Beer

This week I forced Brent at gunpoint gently encouraged Brent to be the one that chooses the the top X material.  So if you don't like it, please send all your hate mail to Brent so he can ignore it instead of us.

In all seriousness, Brent had been absolutely swamped with grad school and his busy regimen of whoring himself out across the blogosphere... wait, I said in all seriousness, didn't I?  In any case, Brent is a busy guy and fitting just one more post into a schedule was pretty hard considering all the book learnin' he's been up to lately.  I had been doing most of the legwork and I thought this week would be a great way to get Brent back into the mix as fully as possible.

So let me kick this off Brent-style:

Hello again boys and girls, Unicorns and children of all ages, Brent here bringing you the House of Paincakes Weekly Top X!

1) Blood of Kittens -  FNIF Extra Innings:  That's All Folks...
Brent: Folks, Friday Night Internet Fights is one of my favorite things; right up there with kittens and Stelek... you know, squeezable things. And speaking of kittens, Dethtron has a series on Blood of Kittens called Extra Innings, but based on the comments nobody seems to know about it! What gives, Lauby?
John: I think people know about it, Brent. I just don’t think people get it. Or at least not Tasty’s readers. Seriously, people, you should have more respect for Dethtron. I mean, he’s Internet famous! Also, isn’t he one of the co-owners of the House of Paincakes too?
Brent: Well, he didn’t make it on the list just ‘cause he’s one of the bosses around here. Kissing butt like that would mean I’d have to include you, right?

2) Creative Twilight - 40K Rules Quiz #3: Weapons
John: Thor is right. Jörmungandr is a bullshit serpent. I mean... it IS important to keep up on the rules. Getting caught up on a rule can feel like a sucker punch - especially when its the kind of thing that totally invalidates your game plan. Improve your rules knowledge, improve your game.
Brent: No doubt. I’m glad to get Thor up here. He’s one of those dudes you see around, commenting on other peoples stuff. I didn’t even know he had a blog. Anyway, this one is all about originality in blogging; I’ve never seen a quiz before... shit... wait a second! This isn’t like a pop quiz, is it?
John: Its just like that dream you keep having only you’re actually not wearing pants.

3) The Grumpy Stunty - FINALLY!!
John: I don’t know exactly what’s going on here, but I do know what kind of a good feeling you can get from getting your own slice of space set up for a hobby you love. Just a little spot where you have TOTAL CONTROLL! Ahhhhhhh... good times.
Brent: Ha! Well, this is about a crazy Brit and my voyeurism! I really dig seeing people’s workspace. It makes me feel good about my own. Also, to all you budding Bloggers out there, every time I’ve posted pics of my game room I’ve drawn good numbers. That means you’re a bunch of Peeping Tom’s too!

4) Warpstone Flux - Top 3 Things I Miss from 4th Edition
Brent: Again, this is about originality in blogging. Here’s a simple, easy to write post that appeals to anyone who played in 4th Edition. See how easy it is to find inspiration, Lauby? Lauby? Dude, get out of that man’s room already!
John: What? WHAT!? I wasn’t smelling his chair! Geez!! But yeah, sometimes, just throwing out some of your random thoughts will net you many delicious comment fish. It gets people to take a look at their own peculiarities and its the kind of thing people want to share. Like for instance, what I miss most about 4th edition was how the Dark Angels weren’t the worst marine chapter ever.

5) Laubersheimer Industries - Using Your Personality When You Blog
Brent: Okay, Lauby, I’m going to cover you with blushes (which is sort of like but not quite as fun as covering someone with kisses... but I get enough bad press without the rumors that would start!) on this one. Fact is, I’ve been searching for the last Top X article this week and found it in your neck of the woods. In my opinion, you’re a Bloggers’ Blogger, and this kind of insight is the reason why. People could do worse than follow your advice... they could follow mine or something!
John: Thanks, Brent! I feel a little weird about commenting on my own post, but I will say that this post was one of the most fun to write I’ve had in a long while. Actually, come to think of it - there’s a lot about your endorsement that makes me feel weird... but, I DO like having my ass kissed. Its a conundrum. Truth is, I’ve always avoided Dethton’s and my own blogs since our names are already on the HoP stationary.

That's it for this week's Top X.  And yes, I'm aware that most of the time X = 5.  Tune in next week when Brent and I get back on this train together and head off onto the high seas of our own blog centered Reading Rainbow.  Til next time! - Lauby

Thanks for listing my blog. I'm quite surprised though, originality for a rules quiz? Surely that's been done a bunch of times, no? Not that I'm complaining.

Which reminds me, I need to get #4 up today.

I agree 100% with listing Lauby. That was one of the best articles I've read in a while.
